Sporting two-seater coupé with 6-cilinder engine and 4 speed gearbox. (ex-Rudy Kousbroek)
Fully original and in good running condition. The Amilcar Martin is certainly a “special” and a one-off production by engineer Jean Martin from Boulogne sur Seine in Paris. Front and back axle and drive shaft are of Amilcar CGSs provenance, dated 1928. The engine and gearbox are BMW 315 (1934), capacity 1485 cc and the coachwork and V-shaped radiator of this coupe are hand made by Jean Martin. The low roof line, narrow windscreen and long doors contribute to the powerful profile of the small coupé. All details are worked out according to Martin’s personal ideas and represent typical French engineering. From 1958 till 1969 the Dutch writer Rudy Kousbroek was living and working in Paris. In 1968 he acquired this Amilcar-Martin and drove it around over Europe. He referred to the car as his six-cylinder Amilcar. Ethel Portnoy (novelist), Rudy’s wife in those days, used the car as well when Rudy preferred his Citroen big six.
The car and upholstery are still in original condition. Paintwork has suffered a bit during the almost 40 years the car remained untouched in a parking box. All mechanics have been checked and adjusted and the engine runs very smoothly. It’s a lovely car to drive with lively performance and excellent manageability. With the car comes a personal handwritten letter from Jean Martin to Rudy Kousbroek with a concise maintenance instruction. Rudy Kousbroek (1929-2010) was a Dutch writer (awarded with the prestigious P.C. Hooft price) with a passion for vintage cars. He was a personal friend of Gabriel Voisin and co-author of Ronald Barker’s and Anthony Harding’s book “Twelve great designers and their Work”. Kousbroek passed away in 2010 at the age of 80 years. A unique piece of Motoring with a great story ! |
